Measuring for a Roman Blind

Whether you'd like your new window treatments to sit inside or outside the window reveal, we’ve made the process simple with our step-by-step instructions.

Before you get started, you’ll need a tape measure (preferably metal), pen and paper. Please note that all measurements should be taken in millimetres (mm).

Recess Fit: Blind is fitted inside the window reveal.
Face Fit: Blind is fitted outside the window reveal.

Measuring for a Recess Fit

When measuring for a recess fit, measure the width of the window in three places as shown in the above video. Enter the smallest measurement when placing an order.

Minor deductions will be made to ensure the blinds clear the sides and bottom of the recess with ease (approx. 10mm from width and up to 10mm from the drop).

Measuring for a Face Fit

When measuring for a face fit, measure the exact width and drop of where you'd like your blind to fit. We recommend the blind overlaps the window by 50-100mm on each side depending on the space you have. If you have architraves, we recommend measuring from architrave edge to architrave edge.

Then, measure the exact drop from the top of where you want your blind to be to the bottom. Please note, measuring 50-100mm above the window opening is recommended.

Handy Hints

  • All of our blinds are made to measure, so be sure to triple check all measurements before placing an order.
  • To ensure a perfect fit, take window handles or other obstructions into account.
